Hello??? Chicago? Can you hear me? Can hear that noise? That is the sound of the trains slowing down and the economy slowing down still in Chicago. Recent articles show that the city of Chicago has similar risks of that of other cities in California, relative to the latest bust in the economy. While living in Chicago, the city opted to increase fares slightly, but then offer it free for citizens.

What must be done? INCREASE the price of the ride, coming from California which has a horrible system (but nice trains), Chicago has great bandwidth. I rarely drove, and the cheap transfers, and overall cheap costs made driving in the city trump the train. The city needs to evaulate the pricing, and maybe take an accounting course, if you run in the red too long, it’s a BAD thing, combined with a state that could run in the red, downhill quickly.

Hate to put down fellow neighbors, but the system was so ran down, it took years to recover, charging a bit more now across the board will help with future deficits.
